In his works, Godtfredsen explores the potential of mundane objects by removing them from the boundaries of their original definitions. In this exhibition materials used in the bicycle workshop are repurposed, prolonging the life of otherwise discarded things. The Rag Paintings series bridges together two separate parts of the artist’s life, the greasy, dirty labour of the bicycle workshop and the meticulous artist practice of the studio. Godtfredsen’s interaction with these materials is limited to a momentary interference that steers them into a new chain of possible events and reevaluates their potential.
Simen Godtfredsen (NO) lives and works in Malmö. He has a Masters degree from Malmö Art Academy. Recent exhibitions include group exhibition ‘Om dessa väggar kunde tala’ at Fullersta Gård, Stockholm (SE) 2019 and solo exhibition ‘Catlike Whispers in Ratlike Dreams’ at Celsius Projects, Malmö (SE) 2019.
